An Open Letter to the
Global Leadership Summit Community.
In light of this past summer’s Global Leadership Summit, we feel compelled to speak openly about a deeply troubling issue. While the Summit is often seen as a space to inspire growth, leadership, and integrity, this year’s event included a moment that cannot go unaddressed.
During the Summit, John Maxwell publicly praised Bill Hybels - a leader whose documented abuse of women has caused significant harm. Honouring someone with such a history undermines the values of integrity and accountability and perpetuates a culture that minimizes sexual exploitation.
As an organization committed to ending sexual exploitation and advocating for survivors, we believe it is critical to act. We invite you to listen to Julie Roys’ Podcast, which examines this incident and its implications:
‘Honoring the Abuser’: John Maxwell Praises Bill Hybels at GLS - The Roys Report
Here is what we ask you to consider:
Do not promote or attend future GLS events until accountability is demonstrated.
Communicate your concerns to GLS leadership and request transparency and change.
Share this information with others in your network to raise awareness.
If you choose to take these steps, we are here to support you, whether that means providing resources, helping draft communications, or connecting you with advocacy efforts.
Together, we can ensure leadership platforms uphold justice and protect the vulnerable. Thank you for considering this important issue. We welcome your thoughts and partnership in creating a culture where exploitation has no place.
Sincerely,
The Daughter Project Team
